International Phonetic Alphabet vowels

Vowels are the sounds we make by directing the flow of sound with our tongue position and shape.

This is dependent on accent, and can be difficult to be specific about.

This is a guide I made, with inspiration from here and here as well as my own knowledge.

What is important to remember is that tongue height and position is the most important part of vowel sounds, and most charts will use that. I have made two charts, one based on height, and the other on the position in the mouth.

Height/Position

This chart is meant to show the positions of where your tongue should be for each vowel, with images to help you remember the pronunciation.

Tree, Ship, Foot, Screw

Bed, Plate, Bird, Pizza, Horse

Cat, Cup, Clock, Art

Ugly Bob

Here is a guide I attempted with where roughly the different vowel sounds are pronounced, with examples.
